The 5th and 6th grade GT classes have been doing a Pioneer Town STEM challenge. The challenge is broke into five activities that they are to complete in groups. Each person has a job in the group and each challenge has rules. Challenge #2 was completed and tested this week. They were to build a pioneer cabin (with certain supplies) that could withstand a wind storm. The cabin had to stand for at least 5 second. Above you will see the groups with their cabins...after testing. The students do an excellent job working together. After testing, they are to collaborate and reflect so as to improve on the next challenge.
Since the challenges are competitive in nature (as they earn points for highest score on the rubric), the students are focused on doing their best. As of this writing, Team ELF is leading by one point....as Team SANTA is right on their heels! Good work, students!!!
